1. A DJ course gift voucher
Equipment is exciting, but lots of beginners unwrap a controller and don’t know where to start. Lessons give them the skills to actually use it. A course is also a good choice if you’re not sure what equipment they’d want.
Our gift vouchers cover a full course at any level, from complete beginner to advanced, and are valid for 180 days. That gives them time to start in the new year. To receive a voucher in time for Christmas, order by 20 December. They don’t need their own decks to start, as their mentor brings the equipment.
2. DJ headphones
Every DJ needs headphones, even if they never buy decks of their own. Look for:
- Closed-back cups that block out room noise.
- Cups that swivel, for listening with one ear.
- A comfortable fit and a strong, wired cable.
Wireless headphones aren’t ideal, as most add a small delay that makes mixing harder.
3. A beginner DJ controller
A controller is the usual first setup: two decks and a mixer in one unit, used with a laptop and DJ software. If you’re buying one, check it works with the software they want to use and with their laptop. Many beginners prefer one with a layout similar to club equipment, so the skills carry over.
4. For vinyl fans
If they love records, smaller gifts go a long way:
- A record bag for carrying records safely.
- Slipmats, which sit between the record and the turntable platter.
- Record cleaning supplies and inner sleeves.
- A voucher for a local record shop.
5. Music and mix uploads
DJs always need new music and somewhere to share their mixes.
- A music download voucher lets them buy tracks to play. DJs usually prefer download stores to streaming, since downloaded tracks work in every DJ setup.
- A Mixcloud Pro subscription gives them extra features for uploading and sharing their mixes, which is useful once they start recording.
6. A ticket to a DJ event
Watching good DJs live is one of the best ways to learn. A ticket to a club night, a festival or a DJ event in the style they love is a great present. It shows them how a DJ builds a night and reads a crowd. Check age limits and entry rules for younger fans.
Stocking fillers
- Musician’s earplugs to protect their hearing at loud events.
- A couple of good USB sticks for storing music to play on club equipment.
- A headphone case or cable organiser.
The gift that gets them playing
A course turns an interest into a real skill, and every one of ours ends with a live graduation set. Have a look at our gift vouchers, or see the Juniors course if you’re buying for a young person.
